I now know the secret to my success: routine.
Last week looked like this: Sleep in a little bit. Go to work. Drive home. Cook. Workout. Shower. Straighten hair. Watch a little tv. Sleep. Repeat.
There have been a few days since I started my new resolve that I have overeaten. Last night was one of those days. What did I do differently on those days?
I didn’t work out. I sat around the house, on the couch. I’ve gotten bored.
Yesterday, I did exercise. We walked for almost an hour. It was a nice, quick walk too. But I wasn’t sweaty so I didn’t need a shower. So I didn’t spend an hour showering and doing something with my hair. So I ate. And ate. And ate. (and counted it all, thank you very much)
Have I overeaten tonight? Nope. Why? I haven’t had time. I had to get up earlier to do something with my hair. I went to work. We walked to dinner and back. I let Jillian try to kill me. I showered, straightened my hair, and now I’m exhausted. I have 4 points yet to eat. And I feel good. I did what I needed to do. And I loved it.
I guess I am a boredom eater. I used to think that was a weakness – like I had to find the willpower to somehow be bored and not eat. Instead, why don’t I just not let myself get bored? That seems like a much better strategy, don’t you think?
I eat out of boredom. Staying busy definately helps. I find my busiest days are sometimes my best.
I love that you mentioned willpower, or more specifically, feeling like you lacked willpower when you were actually just bored. I totally get that. What’s that expression grandmas always say? Idle hands are the devil’s playground? Word, Grandma… WORD.
It’s very wise to use our weaknesses to our advantage! Much better than throwing our hands in the air and saying, “This is just how I am!”. Well done!
I am soo with you on the routine being a key to success. When I have a schedule and a routine things work well for me, the second I get out of that routine good god, the chips and dip are a flowing!!
good idea on straightening the hair the night before…. I should start that — I usually end up in a ponytail because I’m way too lazy in the morning!!
