Our evening has been crazy.
We almost bought this :
Supposedly having one prior owner, this guy:
Why didn’t we buy?
Easy. The used car salesman games. Backfired.
So we go in with an amount we can pay monthly. Point blank. The original number they give us is double that (interest rate for a car made in 1986, length of finance terms for a car made in 1986, etc.). We tell him we can’t do it, and he goes back and runs numbers. While they are running numbers 3 times, we pretty much talk ourselves out of it – start to see the potential difficulties instead of why it is just so freaking awesome. Over an hour later, we were offered the monthly payment we initially presented to them, but we had gotten over our “need” for the car. (Even though it has 78K miles and was a FREAKING STEAL when we walked away.)
Lesson learned? Bring me what you can do in the beginning. If you would have done that, you would have a sweet commission in your pocket. And I’d have a Mercedes in my garage. Or I’d at least see if it would fit.
But I have my dignity. And I feel like I’ve won.
