time to get your crayons and your pencils

I have a few minutes to spare this morning, and I was looking through my pictures and I noticed something interesting.

Nathan and I are kinda snobbish when it comes to having our picture taken. I have always prefered for Nathan to take our picture himself. We’ve mastered the arms-length shot. I always thought I looked better that way.

I had no idea.

I just came across some pictures from October of last year. I don’t know how much I weighed, but I’m sure it was around my highest weight. Anyway, this is a picture his brother took of us with our camera.

IMG_0654And this is a picture Nathan took the same day. The only differences are that I had taken off my coat and that Nathan took the picture himself.

100_3498Isn’t that crazy? I think that may be part of the reason I didn’t realize how heavy I’d gotten – the majority of my pictures look like the second one!

Okay, carry on.

And find a man who can take arms-length pictures. They’re good for the ego.

  1. That is CRAZY… I’d never know those were taken on the same day. You look totally different in both. Can Nathan come take a few arms length pictures of me too? Pretty please?

  2. Umm… can I steal your hubby to take flattering arm-length shots of me? I think it goes to show what a difference a good photographer makes, but don’t beat yourself up too much. You look like BOTH those pretty ladies. Not just the one who appears heavier. A camera can make someone look heavier OR skinnier than they really are.

I saw your tweet about losing 5lbs. Congrats! Crazy what the Adipex/8 mile walk/photo food journal combo can do for a girl! Great work!

  3. That’s amazing! I’m going to take all my pictures that way. You look beautiful in both, but the difference is astounding.

In my list of things I look for in a man, rarely did I consider length of arm, but it just went up the list – LOL.

  4. So obviously the problem with all my pictures is I don’t have Nathan taking them. I’m with Tina – can I borrow him, please?

  5. There is just no end to your husband’s talents! I love his arm-length pictures. Craig and I must practice that!

  6. I’m considering starting a one-armed-picture-taking-consulting firm. It won’t be cheap.

  7. I will pay for some one-armed-picture consulting……..anything to get a flattering picture of myself sans an extra chin ;)

  8. That’s hilarious! And thought-provoking! Something about the second photo – your face really caught the light. Beautiful!

  9. I must find a man that can do this.

I wonder, since you already have thought of this and know you prefer the one arm Nathan taken kind of shots, if you are not just subconsciously more radiant and try to look better in those? Just a thought. Could be complete bull. Probably is, since I think you look cute in both.
