your sweet summertime dress

Okay, boys and girls. It’s time for

OPERATION BRIDESMAID!

Here’s the deal:

My brother is getting married. On Labor Day (September 3). In Chicago (squee!). And I’m in the wedding. I’m really excited because Nathan is in the wedding too. That means we’ll have pictures taken together in fancy clothes. And Nathan cleans up so well.

I was totally psyched when I saw the dress the sister-in-law-to-be had picked out. Such a fun color. Such a subtle sexiness. And pockets!

I got my dress today.

It fits! Comfortably! I don’t like what the pleats do for my arse, but I still have time to work on that.

I’ve been doing so well in my efforts to ramp up my healthy behaviors (8.8 pounds down in 30 days baby!) but that’s not the only thing I need to do for this wedding. So I’ve made a 3-fold plan to get ready.

1. Average 1200 net calories a day over the week. I realize that this isn’t possible every day. I do have rest days where I let my body recover but I have a very hard time only eating 1200 calories. So as long as my Monday to Sunday average is 1200, I’ll be a happy girl. Notice that my goal isnt’ weight loss. That isn’t a behavior. The way my body reacts to my efforts is out of my control. So calorie goal. That’s it.

2. Don’t cut the hair! Trims are fine. Trims are necessary. But I really want to have some decent length on my hair by September. Probably not enough to do an up-do, but enough to have a super-straight angular bob. I have pictures – I know what I want. And I really think I can get there by September. It’s going to be a challenge to not chop it off – partially because it’s getting into that annoying growing-out phase and it’s already hotter than Texas. But I have a goal. And the hair is growing!

3. Focus on my arms. This goal has 2 parts.
a) I’m not really spending much time lifting weights. As in no time at all. I’ve got to get my arms ready for public consumption. That means weights, yoga, really working them while I spin, etc. Cardio alone isn’t going to give me the arms I want.
b) I need to be aware of what I’m wearing when I’m working out outside. The last thing I want is awesome arms and a runner’s tan. I need to invest in some running tanks with different strap configurations and rotate them. A tan isn’t necessary, but evenness is.

16 weeks, boys and girls. 16 weeks to KICK IT.

And I’m all in.

  1. Love the dress! The color is great, and it looks like it’s cut to flatter!

I’m also ramping up my heathy behaviors–for my 30th birthday. :) I like how your goal is not to lose weight though and instead about your actions. Very healthy.

  2. That dress is really cute, love the color! You’re going to look fabulous at the wedding! :)

Those sound like realistic and attainable goals to me. Good luck, I know you can do it.

  3. Its funny how most obese people think cutting calories to 1200 is a reasonable/smart idea. Considering what you weigh now you’re probably consuming double that amount per day. Recipe for obesity: believing you need to diet on 1,200 calories a day, failing, then bingeing.

    • Kat-

I appreciate your concern. But I understand my body and what I need to do in order to lose weight. I also recognize that my “recipe for obesity” was lack of awareness or concern, not eating in a healthy manner. 1200 is also my net calorie goal, not my actual food intake. I ran 5 miles this morning, so my intake will actually be somewhere around 1800. And that is manageable, doesn’t feel restrictive, and allows me to live a “normal” life while losing weight consistently.

I hope I have clarified things a little. If you have any other concerns, feel free to email me.

  4. What a gorgeous dress! I can’t wait for pictures of the wedding. Good luck on meeting your goal. I’ve read your blog long enough to know that your determination is strong! Go get ‘em, girl!

  5. I have never commented on your blog before but have followed you for months and months but having seen your gracious response to a pointless, insensitive comment I wanted to tell you how much you inspire and motivate me.

I would love to be as classy as you!

  6. That really is a beautiful dress! The color is wonderful. Have fun @the wedding.

To the poster above talking about caloric restrictions:

reducing the cals progressively week by week is a much better move than a sudden, huge decrease in calories. A great deal healthier in the long run. Not to mention a much smaller chance of yo-yoing back!
