#7daysofyoga update

So I thought I had a post scheduled to publish this morning and who knows where it is. Maybe I set it to publish at 8pm or maybe to publish tomorrow. Who knows. If another post shows up later (about the aquarium and hot jeans), just consider this a bonus. But for now, you get a lovely picture-free post via email. I just love this technology.

How are you all doing on the #7daysofyoga challenge? I’m doing well, but not what I planned.

I had every intention of doing 6 days of Bikram in the studio. But there is one big issue right now: heat. I have a really hard time going from 90* outside to 104* inside. I just can’t make myself do it. I’m going today, but it will be my first Bikram of the 7 day challenge. (I’m going today! I made a commitment to all of you!)

So what have I been doing?

Monday: I got my yoga on first thing in the morning. I tried to start the Bikram program at home, but I felt really bloated and stiff. I scrolled through iTunes and settled on Hatha series 1 and 2 from yogadownload.com. I like these sessions. I think the instructor really speaks well through the series. It is so calming and focusing and I understand what I’m supposed to do. I feel like I get a good workout and a good emotional centering from all of the yogadownload workouts I’ve tried. Definitely check them out. A lot of the 20 minute sessions are free, although I did pay for the Bikram session. (And it was wonderful by the way. Totally worth it.)

Tuesday: I did Jillian’s Yoga Meltdown. I like it as a workout, but it didn’t feel like "yoga." At all. I think it is painfully obvious that yoga isn’t her strength. Her form looks sloppy and I just think that someone who is leading me in a yoga workout should be able to make it look like yoga. Will I continue to use it? Yes. But as a yoga workout? Not so much. I did learn a new pose, though, and made Nathan try Dolphin plank going into Downward-Facing-Dolphin (I don’t know what it’s really called and I can’t find it). I love it. I may have done it in the floor of my office yesterday while my officemate was at lunch.

Wednesday: I went to a new yoga class. A few weeks ago, I went to Zumba with Miranda and Erin and was given 2 free passes to the studio. I didn’t feel like getting hot in Bikram, and Eagle Creek Wellness is much closer geographically, so that’s what I ended up doing. The class I went to was called Core Restore Power Yoga. It was like 75 minutes of Butts and Gutts. It was no joke. I was so tired of plank and plank variations that I seriously wanted to cry. But I am in love with plank on elbows, but not so much t-pose on elbows. That was just brutal (I came home and showed Nathan). I’m afraid I may have tweaked my left knee a little, but it feels fine this morning. It was a small, laid back class. A lot of chatter, a lot of first-timers. But it was fine. Fun actually. It was a serious work-out with lots of encouragement and feedback. My core is really sore today. That’s a good sign.

I don’t have my plans hammered out for the rest of the week, but I’m committed to daily yoga. And maybe I’ll do #7daysofBikram later in the month.

Is anyone out there doing the challenge? Am I all alone?

  1. Hi – I am doing the challenge! I have only managed to post about day one, but I will post the other two days today.

I have really enjoyed this challenge as a new part of my early morning routine. Today I actually WANTED to get up at 5:15 because I was looking forward to trying something different today with my yoga time.

    THANKS for the idea, Krissie!
