A short stint in the microwave turns a hard fondant into a more pliable product. Place the fondant in a microwavable bowl and heat in five-second intervals. To avoid getting burned by hot fondant, wait until it is cool to the touch and then knead the fondant after each burst of microwaving.

By kneading, stretching, squeezing, pressing, and folding will make the fondant soft again if you add some slip to it. You can use a teaspoon of glycerinfor a pound of fondant. The glycerin will help the fondant to trap some water molecules. The icing will be rehydrated making it pliable.

1 – Roll it Thin. When you roll fondant so that it is thinner, it will dry faster. The thicker pieces will remain soft on the inside, and you need to be very careful with them. If you roll it thinner, you will not need to wait nearly as long. You can roll it thin and shape the decorations, then leave them on a flat surface.

Sugar Paste or Rolled Fondant is an icing used to cover cakes, cupcakes, cookies, cake pops and other sweet treats. Is fondant the same as sugar paste? Yes, they are the same thing. Sugar paste is the term most widely used in the United Kingdom for this soft icing and the term fondant when used in the United States.

Roll the fondant on a lightly dusted and smooth surface. In most places, a mix of powdered sugar and cornstarch works best. While in dry places, vegetable shortening works best to roll fondant. And in places with high humidity, using only cornstarch works best.
